CarbonCap  is a start-up company that manufactures an innovative  shapeable all-solid-state  structural supercapacitor. 

These unique supercapacitors provide supercar and hybrid vehicle
manufacturing companies with the freedom to redesign and relocate their supercapacitors, have enhanced safety, and have increased performance through rapid power charging and supply.

CarbonCap team was founded in September 2018 in Modena thanks to the UniMoRe project TACC. The team is based on the exceptional mix of experience and both technical and soft skills
each team member.

Why a solid electrolyte?

The first step into the technology development of the composite materials has been the choice between solid and liquid electrolyte. Nowadays, the current liquid electrolytes have reached incredible performances in terms of capacity and energy stored, however they present many drawbacks such as: Low breakdown voltage. Low stability at higher temperature. Possible leakage and evaporation related phenomenon. Flammability. Fixed shape cylindrical cell. CarbonCap proposes a solution that overcome all the problems thanks to the solid state electrolyte. Basically, a solid electrolyte cannot leak or evaporate due to the state of the matter.  This feature, incredibly increases the safety of the supercapacitor. Collaboration and Support

Carbon Cap aims to get a patent on the solid supercapacitor in 2019. To do so, CarbonCap will be following parallel researches based on two different technologies. The first technology is being developed by the help of the battery research group in the Università di Parma. Meanwhile, CarbonCap is developing a its own technology in the UniMoRe laboratories. It is important to remark that those two technologies are not alternatives but aim for two different product typologies. The first well defined objective, is to file the patent of the first technology in middle 2019 and the other by the end of 2019, as above mentioned. Those first two patents will be released in Italy and then, in 2020 will be extended to Europe. At the same time, research and development on hardware will be carried out with future partners. Meanwhile, the patents will be exploited by selling licenses to the customers.
